Handel wrote his masterpiece in a matter of weeks, for the benefit of a foundling hospital in Dublin where it was first performed in April 1742.<\/p>\n

As the work gained in popularity, it was generally performed around Easter, but in the 20th and 21st centuries \u201cMessiah\u201d is firmly set in the nation\u2019s traditional Christmas psyche. Particularly poignant in Cirencester\u2019s stunning Parish Church, this is an experience not to be missed.<\/p>\n
